I spent a decade in hospitality before I wrote a line of anything. Kitchens, bars, front doors — the places where you learn that service isn't a department, it's a temperament. You learn what a welcome is worth, and exactly how it feels when nobody's home.
Then AI voice arrived, and most of it shipped without a temperament at all. Software that answers phones the way a vending machine pours coffee. The industry called it done. We call it a first draft.
